4 out of 5 stars only because its base is rigid and flat - and there are few if any completely flat mounting surfaces large enough to mount this item - about 2.5"x1.5", in today's vehicles (dashboards, consoles, etc). This product arrived on time and at a fair price. The aforementioned makes me a little nervous about its long-term adhesion to its mounting location on my dashboard. Construction quality is excellent and it is very functional; meets all expectations. Having a factory-supplied navigation system in my other vehicle, I actually prefer this option with the Garmin unit since I can mount it in a location much more accessible, convenient and safe (to allow eyes to wander less from the road). I hope it sticks since the adhesive mount supplied claims it will be "virtually impossible to remove from dashboard surfaces", if the unit comes un-secured. As long as it stays stuck in place - I'll love it.
Works, but if you use this mount there is no way for charging and info cable supplied with nuvi. Info cable has built-in traffic and info when used. Good for around town but not on long trips where you need info such as traffic, speed limits etc.
My Earlier Windshield mount (Which broke) had that. I First thing i noticed about this dashboard mount when it arrived is it is not flexible, The base is fixed. The Product looks strong. All you can do is move the rotating holder of the GPS to the position you want. You cannot bend or move the handle fixed to your dash-board. I Started using the permanent join rather than the temporary one (As i didn't wanted the GPS unit to keep failing, Which happened so many times with the windshield mount until it broke). Over all i am giving 2 stars for the price i am paying for this and the design of this product.
I've used Garmin mounts before, with older automotive GPS units. In general, they work well and their adhesive mounting is about as good as is possible. With an older, heavier, Streetpilot 3, in a sports car where rocking vibration is fairly high, the mount fails after a year or so of service. I have not had a mount failure in any other car, even with the heavy Streetpilot 3.I am reasonably confident that, even in the sports car, the mount will not fail with the much lighter Nuvi.
My Nuvi 350 came with a windshield mount. When I received the mount, I first tried using the temporary sticker which is suppose leave minimal residue on the dash if you ever wanted to remove it. However, the adhesive strength on the temporary sticker was definitely not enough to secure the GPS into place. When I went to pull it off, pieces of rubber ripped off and was stuck onto the windshield. I really love how it looks and functions. The suction power obviously was never the same again after that. After about a month on the windshield, I had to take it off to move it to another car. I really care about how my car looks so I decided to try this route first.
The GPS+mount would fly off when I accelarted too fast and I was worried that it would fly out the window. It was really a terrible mount.I had been delaying purchasing a new mount, mostly out of laziness, but I decided to give this dash mount a try. So the next day I tried the permanent sticker and that thing is stuck to my dash as if I used superglue. You can quickly detach the arm and GPS from the base, allowing you to keep a lower profile when parked in public places. If you are unhappy with the windshield mount and you don't mind having a permanent sticker going on your dash, I would definitely recommend this product.
